Staying at home with our children (why?)

For months, the topic of biblical womanhood has been a point of focus for me. I don't claim to walk into this blog series with answers. My objective is to simply share my questions and thoughts as well as welcome yours. I believe we can learn so much from one another as we dive into the Word of God and ask Him for wisdom to live out His intended best for our lives.

So, what is biblical womanhood?

As women who are Christ-followers, do we believe our lives should reflect the Truth of God's Word?

Are we daily reading and studying the Bible to be able to distinguish the difference between Truth and lies?

1 Peter 3:3-4 "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

I'll leave us all with this scripture to begin to pray through. If it rubs you the wrong way, just simply ask the Holy Spirit for clarification. He's waiting to show us His Truth into womanhood.

Now, onto our first topic.

Our children.

I want to make it clear at the starting point that there is no judgement for the difference of opinions & choices about this subject matter. I pray that we can all learn from one another and be challenged to live life to the fullest.

Early on in my 20’s, I knew my heart was wired to stay home with my children, if the Lord granted me the blessing of being married and starting a family. I grew up with my Mom staying at home with me and my siblings. Therefore, I reaped the benefits of this decision from my parents. I grew up with my Mom caring for me, not a stranger in daycare. I grew up knowing that home was safe and a place where I felt most comfortable. I grew up without rushing in the morning or rushing to get to bed in the evening. I grew up without fast food being the “normal.” I grew up with simplicity.

I think this is my question:

Where has simplicity gone in womanhood & motherhood? What has happened to the authentic beauty of being a woman who is capable yet simple?

Proverbs 31:25 "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness."

Matthew 6:33 "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

1 Timothy 6:6-7 "Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can't take anything with us when we leave it."

John 15:5 "Yes, I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who remain in me and I in them, will produce much fruit."

Scripture always leads us to Christ; to trusting Him solely and not being dependent on our own capabilities. As women, do we edge on the path of relying on ourselves more than we rely on Christ? Are we forsaking the beauty of simplicity for the momentary satisfaction of bringing home the paycheck or having a house full of "stuff" or expensive gadgets? Are we living life to the fullest when we say "yes to it all" which leaves us depleted & not able to give our best to our family? Are we daily abiding in Jesus Christ; the only One who gives us Life in abundance?

These are just some questions I am asking myself but I also want to challenge you with. I am two and a half months away from transitioning into being a stay at home Mom, which I believe is one of the greatest gifts I've been given. I know there will be rough days & weeks. I know I will have my own set of struggles. But you know what? That's okay. Struggling in and out of seasons is natural. Struggling means growth is happening and I want nothing more than to grow more fully into the woman God created me to be. My husband and I choose for me to stay at home with our children because we know it will be the best decision for our family. We're okay if money is a bit tight. We're okay if the decision doesn't

offer us the luxury of having all we think we need. We want simplicity in our family. We want our children to bear witness to what it looks like to trust the Lord and not on our own efforts. We want to be full-time engaged in our children's lives.

So...wherever you are today in womanhood (regardless if you are a wife and mother), what does LIVING IN SIMPLICITY look like for you? What possible decisions do you need to make in order to abide more fully in Christ, relying on Him & not on your own strength?
